How to Solve Thermodynamics Problems when an Ideal Gas Undergoes a Reversible Cyclic Process – Part 2

In thermodynamics the reference is the internal energy (in chemistry).

The internal energy of a thermodynamic system is the energy of the system as a state function, measured as the amount of energy required to bring the system from its standard internal state to its internal state of interest.

Anything that increases internal energy is positive and that decreases internal energy is negative.

The first law of thermodynamics states that, when energy passes into or out of a system (as work, heat, or matter), the system's internal energy changes in accordance with the law of conservation of energy.

Question:

A heat engine carries 1 mol of an ideal monatomic gas around the cycle as shown in the figure below. What are the amounts of heat added in the process AB and heat removed in the process CA?

q = Heat, Cv = Heat capacity at constant volume, Cp = Heat capacity at constant pressure, ΔT = Change in absolute temperature, w = Work done, ΔU = Change in internal energy, R = Universal gas constant, wchoric = Work done at constant volume, wbaric = Work done at constant pressure, n = # of mol
