BAL is an intramuscularly injectable medication for acute heavy-metal poisoning by As, Hg, Au, & Pb & may also be used for Sb, Tl, or Bi poisoning, although the evidence for those uses is weak. It is on the WHO’s (world health organization) list of essential medicines.
